The Girl King is a Swedish lesbian interest movie about the early life of Queen Kristina (born 1626) and her love for the Countess Ebba Sparre. Set in 17th century Sweden amidst the turmoil of The Thirty Years war of Protestantism versus Catholicism The Girl King is a biographical portrait of Queen Kristina's struggle to assert herself as a woman in a man's world and the tide of conservative forces opposed to her ideas of modernization. The Girl King also explores Queen Kristina's awakening sexuality and provides a few choice love scenes between Kristina and Ebba.
