The World Unseen (2007) (IMDb 6.6) is a movie featuring a lesbian love story set against the back-drop of 1950s era of apartheid in South Africa. The romance centers around Miriam (Lisa Ray) a wife and mother who is attracted by free-spirited Amina (Sheetal Sheth). Their romance pushes the rules-that-bind and forces them both to face outrage and violent disapproval.

The World Unseen was adapted by director Shamin Sarif from her own novel of the same name. Both actresses are stunning and were also paired in Sarif's later film I Can't Think Straight. The movie is worth a look but sometimes the acting disappoints.

Eloise's Lover originally entitled Eloise is a lesbian interest movie that tells the story of 18 year old Asia who falls in love with out lesbian and fellow student Eloise when she agrees to model for her. Asia, a diligent student and compliant daughter who is dating a nice boy is initially ashamed of her feelings but is eventually compelled to acknowledge and act on them. Despite the interference of Asia's mother the pair begin an all too brief relationship before tragedy strikes. Even though the plot is somewhat predictable, the style of the movie and the performances of the two leads make the film enjoyable.

CITIZEN JANE - Lesbian Short Film from Canada (2014) Jane and Maryann

In Citizen Jane, a lesbian short film set in the Canadian army in 1987, Private Jane Cross is noticed by her superior officer Master Corporal Maryann Kirk. Jane who is crushing on the corporal convinces fellow soldier Toni Miles to go to a bar regularly with her in the hope of meeting up with Maryann. Jane and Maryann begin a sexual relationship but the risks of being found out are high in an environment where homosexuality is considered immoral conduct and a dischargable offence. By recording her feelings for Maryann in a journal Jane seals her fate when her room is subsequently searched and the journal confiscated. Based on true accounts and a stellar performance by Tirra Dent as Jane this is an outstanding short film. Watch out for Allyah O'Brien who plays Holly from Rookie Blue as Toni, Jane's friend.
